Itinerary of Photography Tour in Morocco

Our plan is to meet at the airport and introduce ourselves before embarking on a three-hour drive to the Riff Mountains. Our destination is the small town of Chefchaoun, nestled between two peaks. If our arrival time allows, we'll have the opportunity to snap some initial photos of the town's famous blue buildings.

As we awaken in this enchanting town, we find ourselves surrounded by steep, winding streets paved with centuries-old stones polished smooth by the countless feet that have trodden upon them. The homes here are a colorful sight to behold, painted in shades of blue, white, azure, indigo, and purple, with intricate doorways and shutters that also boast a striking blue hue. As we venture out to explore this breathtaking city perched high in the Riff Mountains, it quickly becomes apparent that the possibilities for capturing stunning photographs are limitless.

Following breakfast, we set out on a journey towards the ancient city of Fez, a true gem of a destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you wander through the maze-like streets of the Medina, it feels as though you are taking a stroll through 1,300 years of Moroccan history. Everywhere you turn, there are spectacular photographic opportunities to be found. With the help of a local guide, you'll encounter veiled women, carefree children, and donkeys carrying carts, as well as vendors carrying trays piled high with freshly baked bread. The Medina is a labyrinth of winding alleys, with artisanal carpet makers, manual loom makers, and grand merchant palaces all tucked away within. You'll have ample opportunities to capture the intricately carved stucco walls, arches, and cornices on camera, as well as the exquisite mosaics adorning the Nejjarne Fountain. A visit to the Kairaouine Mosque is a must, and you won't want to miss out on exploring the souk, where vendors sell piles of vibrant spices, luxurious carpets, sumptuous silks, and leather goods. Lastly, be sure to visit the legendary tanneries, where the city's famed leather is crafted using techniques passed down from generation to generation with hard work and skill.

On the fourth day of our adventure, we will shift our focus to the natural beauty of the Moroccan countryside, with a particular emphasis on the small villages, Berber mountain people, and fields that dot the landscape. We'll depart from Fes bright and early in the morning, making our way towards Ifran, which is also known as the "Switzerland of Morocco" thanks to its picturesque charm. Our journey will then take us to the Azro forest, where we'll have the opportunity to observe and photograph the Barbary Apes, one of the region's most stunning native animals. As we continue on through Midelt and the High Atlas Mountains, we'll ascend to the heights of Tizi n'Telghemt (1903m) and take in the breathtaking scenery. Once we've passed through the Atlas Mountains, the landscape will transition into a more arid and desert-like environment. Along the way, we'll drive on a small road that winds its way through fields, where local farmers are always hard at work amidst the stunning autumn colors of the poplar trees. Finally, we'll reach Imilchil just before sunset, where we'll take advantage of the picturesque setting to capture some stunning photos of Tislit Lake. We'll spend the night in a cozy hotel and recharge for another exciting day of exploration.

We begin another day of our Moroccan photography tour with an early start for those who wish to capture the stunning sunrise over the lake. After a delicious breakfast, we'll set off on a scenic drive down the river towards the awe-inspiring Gorge of Todgha, where we'll have ample opportunity to take some breathtaking photos of the stunning natural scenery. Following a delicious lunch, we'll continue on our journey towards Tizi n T'zazert, embarking on a thrilling off-road adventure through the rugged volcanic mountain range of Jbel Saghro. Along the way, we may come across nomadic people grazing their flocks of animals amidst the rugged landscape. Our final destination for the day is the charming village of Nkob, where we'll arrive in the late afternoon. We'll have plenty of time to relax and unwind, taking in the local sights and sounds and perhaps capturing a few stunning photos of the village and its surroundings. We'll spend the night in Nkob, recharging our batteries for another exciting day of exploration.

Make sure to capture a few stunning photos from the terrace of our hotel in Nkob, where the picturesque palm trees and Kasbahs in the background create a truly unforgettable sight. After a short half-hour drive, we'll arrive at the renowned Draa Valley, which stretches for more than 200 kilometers and is dotted with date palms and remote villages. Along the way, we'll observe locals going about their daily lives, working in their fields and showcasing their African heritage. We'll follow the valley for an hour until we reach Zagora, also known as the capital of dates, where we'll enjoy a delicious lunch. Alternatively, we can opt to have lunch later on in Mhamid. Following lunch, we'll embark on a thrilling off-road adventure, crossing the stony desert and the towering dunes for two hours until we reach the spectacular Chegaga Dunes. Here, we'll experience the unique thrill of riding a camel and capturing the unforgettable sunset over the rolling dunes, a perfect way to end a long day of exploration. For those interested in capturing the stunning starry night sky, there will be an excellent opportunity to test your night photography skills. We'll spend the night under the tents, listening to the enchanting sounds of traditional drums, creating a truly magical experience.

By waking up early, you can witness the stunning sunrise over the Chegaga dunes, where the first rays of light create breathtaking colors upon meeting the ground. Our day recommences with an off-road journey through the sandy terrain, until we arrive at the dry lake of IRIKI. The flat surface and the backdrop of the Anti Atlas Mountains are sure to inspire your creativity. Following a tea or coffee break in the town of Foumzguid, we proceed to our lunch destination. After enjoying a delicious meal, we make our way to the Fint oasis, where our hotel boasts a magnificent view overlooking a sea of palm trees.

Indulge in capturing some stunning shots amidst the picturesque palm groves and river of Fint. Afterward, we set off on a drive to explore the Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, which has been recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987. This iconic location has served as a filming location for numerous Hollywood blockbusters. Our journey to Marrakech continues, taking us through the renowned Tizi n Tichka pass (2260m), where you can witness the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks and charming villages. Finally, we rest for the night in a traditional Moroccan Riad in Marrakech.

The Medina of Marrakech has preserved its charm for centuries, bustling with skilled artisans, street vendors, and a kaleidoscope of colors. As you wander through the ancient streets, you will be transported to a magical world of old-world beauty. Photography enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to capture the essence of Marrakech through their lens and camera. One of the must-visit places for photography lovers is Djemma el Fna Square, a vibrant hub of activity with endless possibilities for great shots. Here you will find snake charmers, magicians, cooks, and musicians all vying for your attention. Explore the souks, a maze of covered markets where ancient trades and skills are still practiced. The souks are home to skilled metalworkers, wool dyers, and woodcarvers. Do not miss the chance to visit the Ben Youssef Madrasa, an exquisite example of traditional Moroccan architecture. The intricate carvings and tile mosaics are a sight to behold and perfect for capturing through your lens.

Located between the rugged Moroccan coastline and the sea, lies the captivating whitewashed fishing village of Essaouira. The city is a unique blend of French and Moroccan culture, boasting a vibrant atmosphere of spices, art, music, and colorful narrow streets. Essaouira offers photography enthusiasts ample opportunities to capture the town's charm and character. After a fulfilling morning of snapping away, enjoy a healthy lunch of freshly caught fish, a specialty of the town.
